Arunachal CM Calls For Preserving State’s Rich Indigenous Heritage

The Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, has underlined the need to preserve the unique cultures, traditions, and languages of Indigenous communities.

ITANAGAR: The Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, has underlined the need to preserve the unique cultures, traditions, and languages of Indigenous communities.

While inaugurating the newly constructed building of Arunachal Vikas Parishad (AVP) at Bank Tinali, Khandu raised the concern that these priceless heritage elements will be lost if not properly preserved. He cited other Indigenous cultures and languages that have disappeared from history.

In his speech, Khandu expressed gratitude that Arunachal Pradesh maintained its native culture and traditions and that AVP had played an important role in protecting them since its establishment.

“Arunachal Vikas Parishad has continuously acted towards all-round development of tribal society, especially looking into protection, preservation, and promotion of their culture, customs, religions, rituals and traditions,” said Khandu. He observed that the initiatives undertaken by AVP have resulted in national integrity and unity at the grassroots level mainly within the youth.

The Chief Minister appreciated AVP for its contribution to education and social welfare, especially for the underprivileged tribal children in rural areas. The organization runs 32 middle, primary, and pre-primary schools across Arunachal Pradesh, under the banner of the RSS-linked Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram (ABVKA).

I am pleased to know that over 500 students from Arunachal Pradesh have benefited from the hostels of ABVKA in various locations outside the state,” Khandu said. He appealed to AVP to continue its commendable efforts and assured the organization that the state government would provide full support to it for its endeavors.

Khandu reaffirmed the commitment of the state government towards preserving the indigenous culture. He also pointed out that the setting up of the Department of Indigenous Affairs was one step in this direction. Khandu invited all stakeholders to work with the department in charting strategies for protecting the state’s rich and diverse heritage.

“We are committed to preserving our distinct culture. The Department of Indigenous Affairs stands ready to support and work with you in this noble cause,” Khandu added.

The newly inaugurated AVP building features a multipurpose activity center and serves as the organization’s state office. It is also equipped to provide vocational training for the youth, enhancing skill development and employment opportunities.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s call to action sounds like the urgency of the preservation of the indigenous heritage of Arunachal Pradesh against globalization and homogenization.

Arunachal Pradesh is reaching out to organizations such as AVP and building intergovernmental community collaboration for the continued sustenance of its distinct traditions, languages, and cultural practices through generations.
