Diljit Dosanjh, a Punjabi singer and actor, expressed his support for the farmers' protest at the Singhu border in 2020, imploring the government to address their demands.

According to The Times of India, Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh’s encounter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on New Year’s Day has been met with severe criticism from protesting farmer leaders.

Diljit Dosanjh’s meeting was met with disappointment by the farmers, who had previously expressed their support for the farmers’ movement. They questioned the singer’s dedication to the cause.Diljit Dosanjh characterized his meeting with Modi as a “fantastic start” to the New Year, while the prime minister commended his ascension from “humble beginnings to international stardom.”

“If Diljit had genuinely cared about farmers, he would have joined us in solidarity with Dallewal Ji at the Sambhu Border, listened to our concerns, and remained true to his previous statements.” Instead, a farmer leader at the frontier was quoted by ToI as stating that meeting PM Modi raises doubts about his intentions.

Diljit Dosanjh’s assistance in 2020

Diljit Dosanjh expressed his support for the farmers’ protest in 2020, imploring the Centre to meet their demands and advocating for their cause.

In the same year, Diljit Dosanjh expressed his solidarity with the farmers on Instagram, writing, “25 September.” We will all support the farmer community. The cultivators are supported by every individual in Punjab, regardless of their age. Those who are advocating for the law should at least attempt to engage in a conversation with the farmers. The Punjabi language has been eliminated from the official languages of Jammu and Kashmir. What is transpiring?

The farmers have reiterated that their struggle will persist until their demands are met.

Jagjit Singh Dallewal, the convener of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), has been on a fast-unto-death at the Khanouri border in an effort to persuade the Centre to accept the demands of farmers, which include a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for commodities.

Thousands of farmers, as well as numerous tractor-trolleys, have assembled at the Khanauri site to lend their support. Despite the Punjab government’s efforts to persuade Dallewal to take medical assistance, he has declined.

The Punjab government has been directed by the Supreme Court to guarantee Dallewal’s health and adhere to its directives regarding his hospitalization.

Diljit and PM Modi convene

During their New Year’s Day meeting on Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi commended Diljit for his accomplishments, stating, “It is an amazing feeling when a boy from a small village in ‘Hindustan’ shines on the global stage.” You were given the name Diljit by your family, and you continue to captivate the affections of others, as your name implies.

Diljit responded with, “We used to read that ‘Mera Bharat Mahan’ (My India is great), but when I travelled across India, I realised why people say this.”

The singer-actor also expressed admiration for PM Modi’s personal voyage, stating, “I have viewed your interview, sir.” There is a mother, a son, and a human being behind the position of Prime Minister, despite its greatness. This half-truth is often significantly more significant when one carries their mother and the sacrosanct Ganga. I am moved by that.
