Bhool Bhulaiyaa has become a huge hit series, especially with the second and third installments in the previous four years, starring Kartik Aaryan. The franchise began with the 2007 film Ghostbusters, directed by Priyadarshan and starring Akhshay Kumar as the main. In a new interview with Pinkvilla, Akshay discloses why he was not a part of the sequel or threequel.
What Akshay said:
During the fan interaction portion, an audience member informed Akshay that, while he is a big admirer of the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise, he did not watch the second and third parts because Akshay was not in them. He questioned Akshay why he didn’t do those films, and Akshay simply grinned and said, “Beta mujhe nikaal dil tha (I was removed). “That’s it.”
The same admirer also questioned Akshay’s decision to reduce his involvement in comedies over the last decade. Akshay said in Hindi, “That is true. I’ve done less comedies. I’ve worked on several social films, including Sarfira (2024), Airlift (2016), Rustom (2016), Padman (2018), and Toilet (Ek Prem Katha, 2017). Because I wanted to do it. I’d already appeared in numerous comedies. Every person has a mindset at a given time about what he wants to do. So I wanted to do it. But now, I’ve signed approximately 2-3 comedies that I’m filing, including Bhooth Bangla, Welcome (to the Jungle), and Housefull (5).”
About the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise.
The Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise, created by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, began with the 2007 film, which also featured Vidya Balan as the witch Manjulika. Anees Bazmee directed the sequel, which came out in 2022. Kartik Aaryan starred as ghostbuster Rooh Baba, while Kiara Advani and Tabu played twin witches Manjulika and Anjulika.
