The CBI Will Take Over the Case of the Missing Man From an Army Camp.

The Manipur cabinet has decided to transfer the case of a 56-year-old Meitei man who allegedly went missing from an Army camp on November 25 to the CBI.

IMPHAL: The Manipur cabinet has decided to transfer the case of Laishram Kamalbabu Singh, a 56-year-old Meitei man who allegedly went missing from the Leimakhong Army camp on November 25, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Saturday.

Kamalbabu, a supervisor involved in contract work at the Army camp of the 57th Mountain Division, was last seen after reporting for work on November 25. His mobile phone has been switched off since 2 PM the same day, prompting his family to file a complaint at the Sekmai police station, which registered a zero FIR.

The disappearance has triggered widespread protests, particularly by women, who have blocked roads and demanded clarity on his whereabouts. The Indian Army has deployed over 2,000 troops, helicopters, drones, and tracker dogs in search efforts.

In addition to transferring the case to the CBI for a thorough investigation, the cabinet discussed seven other agendas, including the Chief Minister’s Teachers’ Achievement Award scheme aimed at encouraging excellence in the teaching profession.

The Manipur High Court has also formed a four-member committee to investigate whether Kamalbabu was abducted or left the camp on his own. Officials stated that the transfer of the case to the CBI underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring justice.
