Arms and Ammunition Were Recovered Following a Search Operation

Security personnel have conducted search operations in vulnerable areas of Manipur's hill and valley districts, recapturing weapons and ammunition. The Indian Army and police have also successfully recovered weapons, ammunition, and warlike stores from four districts. The operation follows violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities.

In the peripheral and vulnerable areas of the hill and valley districts of Manipur, security personnel have conducted search operations and area domination.

According to officials, a number of firearms and ammunition were discovered during the search operations on Friday.

The police have confiscated one SMG carbine with magazine, one 12 bore single barrel bore gun, 60 live ammunition, five UBGL rounds, and two explosives from the jungle adjoining the areas of Zairol and Uchathol under the jurisdiction of Jiribam police station in Jiribam district.

Weapons, ammunition, and warlike supplies were recovered by the Indian Army from the hill and valley regions of four Manipur districts, including Churchandpur, in a series of successful joint operations with the police and other security forces on Wednesday.

As per the official statement, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Manipur Police and other security forces, successfully recovered 12 weapons, ammunition, and warlike stores from both hill and valley regions in the districts of Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Churchandpur, and Tengnupal in Manipur through a series of joint operations.

As per the official statement, the recovery of carbine machine guns, single bore barrel rifles, AKs, pistols, grenades, ammunition, and warlike stores was the result of intelligence-based operations conducted by the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in the general areas of Mongjang village in Churachandpur district on January 11 and Phayeng Hill in Kangpokpi district on January 13. Additionally, the operations were conducted in Nepali Basti, Zero Point – P1 Railway Site Road, 6 km north of Kotlen village in Kangpokpi district on January 14, and Salam Patong village and Waithou in Thoubal district on January 14.

Following the Manipur High Court’s directive to the state to evaluate the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribes list, violence ensued between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur on May 3, 2023, following a rally organized by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM).
