The PM Cannot Avoid Responsibility for the Unrest in Manipur, as the BJP Has a Stake in it: Kharge

The BJP is the matchstick which burnt Manipur, he said

The Congress blasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday after new violence broke out in Manipur, claiming that he could not avoid his constitutional responsibility for not adhering to “rajdharma”.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said in a post on X that the BJP has a stake in keeping the border state hot.

In his post, he said, “The BJP is the matchstick which burnt Manipur!”

A screen grab of a news report regarding the most recent violence was also posted by him.

“Your last visit to Manipur, Narendra Modi ji, was to garner votes for the BJP back in January 2022,” the Congress head wrote in the post. The state was rocked by violence on May 3, 2023.”More than 600 days have passed, and media reports through satellite images have now revealed that villages after villages have been wiped off in the state,” he stated.

According to Kharge, there was recent violence when a mob attacked the district superintendent of police in Kangpokpi, injuring him.

“Your incompetent and shameless chief minister has expressed regret but has conveniently brazened out your absence in the state,” he claimed.

“With over 250 innocent people killed and 60,000 homeless, we are saying with the highest responsibility that the BJP has a stake in keeping the lovely border state ablaze. For 20 months, people are still residing in camps, Kharge asserted.

The president of Congress pointed out that even the Supreme Court has stated that maintaining peace and normalcy is primarily the duty of the Union and the state governments.

“The INDIA (bloc) parties in Manipur made three straightforward and precise requests to you on December 6. You should have gone to Manipur before 2024 ended, but you didn’t. In Delhi, you HAVEN’T called representatives of every political party to your office. Engage in direct involvement in Manipur, but it doesn’t appear that you have,” he stated.

“Even if you do either of the above, you cannot escape the constitutional culpability of not following rajdharma,” Kharge said.

Because of the officer’s apparent refusal to remove central soldiers from Saibol village, which borders the Imphal East district, a mob attacked the police superintendent’s office in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Friday, injuring him, according to officials.

The conflict between security forces and assailants also injured a number of other people, including protestors and police officers.

Kuki groups have been demonstrating against the security forces’ alleged December 31 baton charge against women in Saibol hamlet.

To express their ire at the ongoing presence of central troops in the hamlet, especially the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the assailants threw stones and other objects at the office on Friday.
