KAKCHING: Manipur Police arrested seven KCP(PWG) militants in Kakching district following the killing of two migrant workers from Bihar. The arrests were part of an intensified crackdown after the December 14 murders.
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh stated that while the militants’ direct involvement is still under investigation, the operation aims to address the ongoing security challenges in the state. The arrested militants were identified, and weapons were seized during the targeted operation.
The operation commenced with the arrest of Irengbam Rameshwar Singh (48), a senior operative of the KCP (PWG), in the Kakching Lamkhai area. Based on his interrogation, the police raided a militant hideout in Kakching Mamang Ching Laipham Loknung, where they apprehended six additional militants.
The militants arrested were Elangabam Herojit Singh (40), Heikrujam Prem (28), Okram Arundatta (30), Senjam Rebingson (27), Okram Amarjit (31), Aribam Ghanendrajit Sharma (25), and Chongtham Rajkumar (26).
During the raid, Manipur Police seized a significant weapons cache from KCP-PWG militants. The recovered arsenal included multiple firearms—7.65mm, 9mm, and .32 pistols; a 7.62mm sniper rifle; two DBBL and SBBL guns; along with three HE grenades and nineteen live ammunition rounds. The operation also netted two Baofeng handsets, ten mobile phones, and an unregistered two-wheeler vehicle. This comprehensive seizure demonstrates the police’s strategic effort to disrupt militant operations and enhance regional security.
The arrested militants have been taken to Kakching Police Station for further investigation. Authorities have reaffirmed their dedication to combating insurgent activities in the region and safeguarding local communities.
