IMPHAL: On Tuesday night, December 17, two men were shot in their legs by unidentified armed assailants in the Imphal East district of Manipur. The incident occurred at the Kongba river bank area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Heingang police station.

The victims, Takhelchangbam Hemanta, 55, and Yengkhom Kesho, 56, were attacked by the gunmen who came to the location on foot or by vehicle. The assailants opened fire, targeting the men’s legs, and immediately fled the scene without leaving any trace.

Residents, hearing the gunshots, rushed to the spot and found the injured men. They quickly transported Hemanta and Kesho to the Heingang police station to seek help. The police, responding swiftly to the situation, arranged for the two victims to be transferred to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal for medical treatment.

The authorities have launched an investigation into the attack and are conducting a search operation in the area to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

The police have encouraged the public to come forth with any information that would help in the investigation. They are working hard to ensure that the safety of the residents is guaranteed and that the perpetrators of the attack are brought to justice.
