IMPHAL: The Indian Army, BSF, CRPF and State Police collaborated to launch an extensive counter-insurgency operation in various places in Manipur’s Imphal East district starting from December 28.
The places targeted were Sabungkhok Khunou, Shantikhongbal, Thamnapokpi, Sanasabi, Uyok Ching, and Natum Ching along with the border areas near the villages of Thamnapokpi and Sanasabi. Security forces neutralized and evicted all armed miscreants from these areas.
During the operation, four illegal bunkers were destroyed, while three others were secured and placed under the control of the security forces. Key strategic locations, including the high ground of Uyok Ching, were also occupied to ensure a strong defensive position.
The joint forces have established their presence in these areas and guaranteed peace and security to its residents. Officials noted that these measures are part of a coordinated effort to dismantle networks of insurgents and prevent unlawful activities from resurging in the region.
Earlier this month, Security forces seized a large cache of explosives and firearms in separate operations in Churachandpur district, Manipur, on December 24. Based on intelligence, a joint operation by the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police led to the recovery of 3.6 kg of explosives, detonators, and accessories hidden under a bridge on the Imphal-Churachandpur route.
In Moljol village, weapons seized included a .303 rifle, an M-16 rifle, country-made guns, a revolver, and live ammunition. Earlier, on December 23, security forces also recovered explosives, including IEDs and detonators, during operations in Lesiang village.
This operation, therefore, reflects the will of the security forces to bring back stability and protect the lives of the civilians in the valley and hill areas surrounding it. Further actions are planned to ensure continued vigilance and sustain the momentum of this operation.
