Ajay Kumar Bhalla: Manipur’s New Governor Takes Oath

Ajay Kumar Bhalla was sworn in as the 19th governor of Manipur, taking the oath of office from Justice D Krishnakumar. He is a retired IAS officer and former union home secretary. Bhalla, who arrived in Imphal, will replace Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, who held the additional charge.

As the 19th governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, a senior officer in the Indian Administrative Service, took the oath of office on Friday at the Raj Bhavan.

Justice D Krishnakumar, who is the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur, gave the oath. Bhalla looked at the formal guard of honor that was put together by members of the Manipur Rifles.

After five years as the union home secretary, Bhalla was recently chosen by President Droupadi Murmu to become the governor of Manipur. Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya is filling in briefly.
