On January 8, 2025, a joint operation by Manipur Police, 37 Assam Rifles, the Forest Department, and an Executive Magistrate resulted in the eradication of a 4-acre poppy plantation in the Haopi Mollen hill range, Sangaikot Police Station, Churachandpur District. During the operation, 10 poppy pods were confiscated.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh praised the initiative, saying, “While no arrests were made, 10 poppy pods were confiscated, and formalities were completed at the Sangaikot Police Station. The output, estimated at 12 kg if harvested, demonstrates the significance of such acts in the War on Drugs.
An FIR has been filed, and officials are seeking to locate and prosecute the growers. The operation demonstrates the government’s ongoing commitment to eradicate drug cultivation and trafficking in the state.
