Manipur Congress Advocates for Safe Return of Displaced Persons to Restore Normalcy

A group of Congress leaders from Manipur, led by former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and accompanied by MP for Inner Manipur, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, met newly appointed Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhawan.

On Wednesday, the Congress party in Manipur highlighted the importance of allowing displaced residents from violence-hit areas to safely return to their homes and villages before restoring genuine normality in the state.

A Congress delegation met with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and urged him to take prompt action to restore calm and ensure the safety and rehabilitation of those impacted.

“Normalcy would only return when thousands of people living in relief camps are able to safely return to their homes,” according to the party.

Veteran Congress leader and three-term Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, who headed the team, emphasized that the absence of violence alone does not constitute peace when thousands remain confined to relief camps.

The Governor allegedly expressed a willingness to examine the party’s suggestions in resolving the state’s ongoing dilemma.

The delegation consisted of State Congress President Keisham Meghachandra Singh, Congress Legislature Party Deputy Leader Kangujam Ranjit Singh, Chief Whip Lokeshwar Singh, Congress Lok Sabha Member Bimol Akoijam, and MLA Surjakumar Okram.
