N. Biren Singh, the Chief Minister of Manipur, has stated that the state’s eastern region has been subjected to an unlawful infiltration threat from Myanmar.
Singh also stated that an alert is being maintained to prevent the illicit entry of individuals from Bangladesh.
He urged the indigenous population of the state to remain vigilant against illegal immigration from Myanmar and Bangladesh.
Manipur is bordered by Myanmar, but not by Bangladesh. It shares borders with Assam, Mizoram, and Nagaland.
According to the chief minister, Manipur shares an interstate border with Assam that spans 204 kilometers. He also stated that Assam and Tripura have been experiencing infiltration issues from Bangladesh.
Singh stated that the inauguration of the Mahur-Tamenglong road, which is currently under construction and will provide direct connectivity between Manipur and Assam, could present a challenge.
“We are currently confronted with the illegal migration of individuals from Myanmar.” The issue of Bangladeshi immigrants is currently being addressed in the western and southern regions. “I urge all indigenous individuals to exercise caution,” he stated.
“If the illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh are not detected by Assam, they may enter Manipur,” he further stated.
Bangladesh is bordered by Assam and Tripura by 263 km and 856 km, respectively. Nevertheless, the majority of the international frontiers of the two countries have been enclosed, although certain areas remain unfenced.
Manipur is safeguarded by the inner line permit (ILP), an official travel document issued by the state government to permit inward travel of an Indian citizen into the state for a restricted duration.
