Guwahati: A sniper rifle was one of 35 weapons that the security forces in Manipur have recovered in a series of joint operations since January 19, 2025.
The Army, the paramilitary Assam Rifles, and State Police personnel recovered a modified sniper rifle, five 9mm pistols, two single-barrel rifles, grenades, ammunition, and war-like stores during an operation in the Lungkhongjang ridge in Bishnupur district on January 19, 2025, according to a statement from the Defence.
Several weapons, such as a 9mm sub-machine gun, a mortar, and a grenade launcher, were recovered during the second operation on January 20 by the Army, the Central Reserve Police Force, and police personnel. This operation was conducted in the vicinity of the Khuga river, which serves as the frontier between the Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts.
A person associated with the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup was apprehended in the Tengnoupal district of India during the first of two additional operations on January 20. In the second, Assam Rifles personnel discovered an improvised projectile launcher and other weapons during a search operation in the Noney district’s Maoching.
Some firearms, grenades, and ammunition were recovered by Assam Rifles personnel from the general area of Ngamukhong Fungi Ching (Leingangpokpi) in the Thoubal district on January 23. Two members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), which is illegal, were apprehended in an area between Thoubal’s Heirok and Wangjing during an additional police operation.
Additional ammunition, firearms, and war-like supplies were retrieved from an area between Zairawn and Uchatol in the Jiribam district on January 23, the Chandel and Imphal West districts on January 24, and Thangjao Mamang Ching in the Kakching district and Sekmai in the Imphal West district on January 25.
“These operations were successful as a result of the seamless collaboration between the security forces and other law enforcement agencies,” the statement stated.
