Security Forces Arrested Eight Militants During Major Crackdown

Manipur Police and security forces have arrested multiple insurgents linked to various proscribed groups in a crackdown on militant activities in the state. The arrests include two members of the RPF/PLA, two members of PREPAK, and three KYKL cadres and one UNLF-K cadre.

During a major operation against militant activity, Manipur Police and security personnel detained several rebels connected to various banned groups all throughout the state.

Two active RPF/PLA members caught by Manipur Police on Wednesday, January 29, were allegedly extorting money from businesses around Paona Bazar. The arrested persons are Yengkhom Gyandas Singh @ Dinku @ Chaningkhomba (24) and Nepram Bothe Meitei (24).

Among the recovered items from their possession are one.32 handgun with seven rounds of 7.65mm ammunition, two cell phones, one wallet containing Rs. 6,210, one Aadhaar card and one two-wheeler.

Two active PREPAK (PRO) members from Tentha under Khongjom Police Station, Thoubal District, were caught separately the same day. The arrested persons are Leishangthem Hemanta Singh @ Leishemba (41) and Kiyam Open Meitei @ Penthokpa (41).

Within the general area between BP-85 and BP-86, Tengnoupal District, Central Forces detained three KYKL cadres and one UNLF-K cadre on January 28. Later on, Tengnoupal Police Station received the detained insurgents.

Rishikanta Laishram @ Malemnganba (32) – KYKL, Poireiton Leasanthem @ Tokio (26) – KYKL, Naorem Yohenba Singh @ Nongyai (26) – KYKL and Kh. Malemnganba Meitei @ Phoungakpa (27) – UNLF-K. One Khukri, two cell phones, one power bank, four liquor bottles, two debit cards, one Aadhaar card, one voter ID, one PAN card were seized.

The effective operations underline the ongoing efforts of Manipur Police and security forces in reducing insurgency and guaranteeing law and order in the state.
