DIMAPUR: A devastating fire swept through Naharbari Petla Colony in Nagaland’s Dimapur, destroying over 100 houses. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire spread uncontrollably, engulfing the densely populated area in a matter of moments. Authorities are currently evaluating the extent of the damage and organizing relief efforts for those affected. Emergency response teams have been dispatched to the scene, and the community is coming together to support the displaced residents.

Meanwhile, earlier last month, a tragic fire took the lives of an elderly couple in Rina village in Arunachal’s Lower Siang district. The victims are said to be Nyato Rina and his wife, Hemme Rina, both above 90 years of age, confirmed by family sources.

The fire broke out at approximately 3:30 am when the couple and family members were asleep. Hemme Rina died on the spot, while her husband, Nyato, succumbed to severe burn injuries on Thursday evening at Bakin Pertin General Hospital in Pasighat, East Siang district.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the fire totally consumed the kutcha house, leaving it totally destroyed. The local authorities were unaware of the incident, as confirmed by the Lower Siang SP and the officer-in-charge of Nari police station. However, Nari Circle Officer Tage Asha, who is also the EAC in-charge of Koyu, later received a report detailing the incident, which included the death of the elderly woman.
