Arunachal: Serial Theft Gang Busted in Itanagar

Police in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, have successfully busted a gang responsible for several thefts in the capital region.

The gang’s strategy includes targeting bank premises and parking lots, utilizing misleading tactics including dumping fake money notes to distract victims while stealing their belongings.

Their senior appearance and brief stay in Arunachal Pradesh had helped them to avoid suspicion until now, authorities claimed.

The month-long police investigation resulted in the arrest of three people.

They were identified as Chandan Gowala (57) of West Bengal, Deepak Sharma (57) of Uttar Pradesh, and Rakesh Singh (47) of West Bengal.

A motorcycle with a forged registration number, utilized in the crimes, was also seized.

The theft cases recorded included the loss of Rs 3,00,000 from a complainant’s car outside the SBI Itanagar branch on December 11, 2024, as well as the theft of cash from a scooter parked in the basement of V-Mart, Ganga Market, on December 9.

Following the arrests, the Itanagar police released safety instructions asking individuals to avoid leaving large sums of cash unattended in vehicles, to be cautious around banks, and to report any suspicious activity.
