Itanagar: Newly elected Arunachal Pradesh unit BJP president Kaling Moyong on Wednesday said the party will implement the Women Reservation Bill in the 2029 assembly elections in the state in letter and spirit.
Welcoming the government’s decision, he said it would provide women with a platform to participate in governance, empower them politically, and enhance their role in decision-making processes. Chief Minister Pema Khandu recently announced that 20 women candidates will be fielded in the next assembly polls in 2029.
Moyong said that he has been instructed by the chief minister to motivate women candidates to ‘come out of the kitchen’ and prepare themselves to contest assembly elections due in 2029. “The chief minister had categorically mentioned that even spouses of sitting ministers and MLAs will not get party tickets if they are not competent,” Moyong said.
Stating that women of the state are shining in various fields, Moyong exuded confidence that women too can excel in politics.
Admitting that it will take time for women to overcome political barriers, he said, “Political and societal barriers should be broken.”
The Constitution (One Hundred and Sixth Amendment) Act, popularly known as the Women’s Reservation Bill, 2023 (Nari shakti Vandan Adhiniyam), was passed by both houses of Parliament in September 2023.
On the development front, Moyong assured support for the state government in implementing government policies and programmes and emphasized the importance of public outreach to raise awareness about development schemes. He said the party and the state government must have proper coordination to ensure the holistic well-being of the last man in the queue.
