Shillong: The Meghalaya government has refuted Delhi Police’s claims of illegal immigration from Bangladesh, stating there have been no such reports in recent months.

Chief Secretary DP Wahlang confirmed that no issues have arisen along the international border, emphasizing that intelligence reports related to cross-border activities are regularly shared with the Border Security Force (BSF).

Wahlang noted that the BSF, supported by Meghalaya Police, maintains strict surveillance along the border, ensuring security and vigilance.

Regarding a recent drone sighting near the Sohra-Shella border, Wahlang stated there is no detailed information about its purpose or activities. He mentioned that the matter is likely being analyzed by the central authorities, who may provide further updates when the situation becomes clearer. He also clarified that the drone incident appeared to be an isolated occurrence.

On illegal coal mining, Wahlang said there is no definitive evidence of mining activities at present. He explained that any reports of suspected illegal mining are promptly investigated by district authorities to address the issue.

Reflecting on the past year, Wahlang highlighted that 2024 was relatively peaceful, with no major law-and-order issues disrupting the state. He expressed optimism that this stability would continue into 2025, enabling the government to focus on development initiatives.

A conducive environment, he added, allows the state to prioritize growth and deliver benefits to its citizens, fostering overall progress and prosperity.
