Highest Budget Allocation to Health Sector: Meghalaya CM

Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma, says that the health sector will get the biggest budget ever. This is to improve the state's healthcare system.

Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, said on Thursday that the state government has been putting a lot of effort into the health sector and that the hill state’s healthcare infrastructure has been given the most money in the budget. In the Eastern West Khasi Hills District, Sangma opened the Rural Health Centre at Myriaw. Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. W. R. Kharlukhi were also there.

He said, “Our Government is committed to transforming the sector. The highest budget allocation for the health sector at 9 percent, which stands as the highest in the country, is a reflection of the Government’s commitment.”

He also said that the health sector has been given top priority since the National People’s Party (NPP) took power in Meghalaya. He said that the health sector is one of the most difficult areas in the state and that infrastructure has been improved in the last seven years to make healthcare easier for people in rural areas to get.

CMSDF has given Rs 38.8 lakh to the Rural Health Centre (RHC), and another Rs 38 lakh will be given out soon. The 21 towns that make up the Myriaw RHC are run by the Dr. H. G. Roberts Hospital in Shillong. The RHC is the fourth one in the state that the hospital has run. The Chief Minister talked about how important it is to work together and said that while the government does its job, the community and good-hearted groups like the Dr. H. G. Roberts Hospital in Shillong will work together to make healthcare more accessible in Meghalaya.

In recognition of the work that Dr. H. G. Roberts Hospital, Shillong has done, the Chief Minister also said that they would help a hospital in Shillong that they run improve their facilities so that they can offer Laser Lithotripsy. (IANS)
