Gen V.K Singh (Retd) takes oath as 25th Governor of Mizoram

Former Union Minister and Army chief, Gen. Vijay Kumar Singh (retd.), took oath as the 25th Governor of Mizoram on Thursday.

As the 25th Governor of Mizoram, Gen. Vijay Kumar Singh (retd.), a former Union Minister and Army chief, took office on Thursday.

Governor Singh was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court by Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi in a simple event at Raj Bhavan.

Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena led the event, which was attended by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, his cabinet colleagues, Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama, and top representatives from the military, the police, and the civilian government.

There were also church leaders, people from different groups, and former Chief Ministers Lal Thanhawla (Congress) and Zoramthanga (Mizo National Front). Government of Mizoram was given to Singh by President Droupadi Murmu on December 24.

Thursday, the new governor arrived at the Lengpui Airport, about 30 km from Aizawl. The chief minister, assembly speaker Lalbiakzama, home minister K. Sapdanga, and other important people were there to greet him. Before taking over as governor of Mizoram, the Governor went to the holy Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati with his wife Bharti Singh and other family members to ask Maa Kamakhya for her blessings.

“This act of devotion shows how much people in the area value their spiritual and cultural traditions.” During the visit, the Governor prayed to Maa Kamakhya and asked for her help and blessing to serve the people of Mizoram with honesty, humility, and devotion. An official release said, “The visit to one of the most important Shakti Peeths is a sign of respect and shows how important divine inspiration is in public service.”

Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati left the state on January 2 and became governor of Odisha the next day. He had been governor for more than three years and five months. (IANS)
