The Global Bangla Hindu Alliance Accuses Bangladesh of Becoming a Militant State and Makes Five Demands of the UN

Agartala, January 03, 2025: The Global Bangla Hindu Alliance has expressed concern over what it describes as a “severe crisis” in Bangladesh, claiming that the nation has devolved into a militant state that is presenting a threat to both its own people and the surrounding area.

Pushpita Gupta, a spokesperson of the group, brought attention to the predicament of Bangladesh‘s minorities and made a five-point request to the UN during a news conference on Friday at the Agartala news Club.

“The mass uprisings have left Bangladesh in a precarious and frightening situation,” Gupta said. Hindus, Chakmas, and other ethnic groups are the targets of barbaric attacks. Numerous families are now homeless, Hindu businesses are being robbed, and more than 100 homes have been set on fire. “The victims are constantly feeling insecure,” she continued.

Gupta also brought attention to the recent arrest of well-known Hindu leader Chinmoy Prabhu, who she claims has been held without reason and refused release. She said, “This reflects the country’s broader trend of suppression and loss of fundamental rights.”

“Freedom of speech has been snatched away, and individuals speaking out against the government are being arrested,” Gupta added, criticising the interim government. Bangladesh has been turned into a militant state as a result of this harsh climate. The scenario threatens not only Bangladesh but the entire region as a whole.

Using drones to monitor Hindu-dominated areas and improve security for minorities, rehabilitating displaced minority families, international intervention to ensure justice and restore stability, and holding the Bangladeshi government accountable for human rights violations are just a few of the demands that the alliance made of the UN, according to Sushanta Das, another alliance representative.

The coalition urged the international community to take immediate action, stressing that inaction could result in more instability and unrest in the region. “The suffering of Bangladesh’s minorities cannot be ignored by the world,” Das said in closing.
