Three Students From the Northeast Get the Top Spot in the National Meteorological Olympiad (Met-Olympiad)

Three young students hailing from Northeast, including one from Assam, have secured ranks in the National Meteorological Olympiad (Met-Olympiad) organized by India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Guwahati: Three young students hailing from Northeast, including one from Assam, have secured ranks in the National Meteorological Olympiad (Met-Olympiad) organized by India Meteorological Department (IMD). It was conducted as part of the 150th Foundation Day celebrations of IMD at the state level and consecutively at the national level.

Tanmoy Kashyap (St Vivekananda English Academy, Maligaon, Guwahati), Dishant Bezbaruah (Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Nirjuli, Arunachal Pradesh), and Samrat Das (Delhi Public School, Dimapur, Nagaland) have secured 2nd, 3rd, and 3rd ranks in the 8th, 9th, and 11th standard Olympiads at the national level, respectively. They received accolades from Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the grand commemoration ceremony organized at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on January 14. They were awarded with cash prize and mementos.

Significantly, the India Meteorological Department celebrated the completion of 150 years of its foundation on January 15, 2025. The main function was organized at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Prime Minister Modi was the chief guest of the function. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State, Ministry of Earth Sciences and Ms Celeste Saulo, Secretary-General, World Meteorological Organization, were also present on this occasion.

During the event, the Prime Minister released customized My Stamp, Commemorative Coin, IMD Vision Document 2047, and Digital Coffee Table Book. He also launched Mission Mausam. Live streaming of the programme was witnessed by the general public, students, and retired and serving RMC officials at the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati.
