National Games 2025: Manipur Wins Multiple Gold Medals in Wushu

Manipur dominated the first day of the Wushu contests at the Kanchenjunga Hall, MPSC, where on Wednesday the 38th National Games showed an amazing exhibition of talent and discipline.

At the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, Manipur displayed its might in Wushu; its participants took home numerous medals to raise their overall count.

Whereas Marshal Salam and K Panthoi Devi won silver in the men’s and women’s Changquan competitions respectively, T Saya Chanu won a gold medal in the women’s Changquan event. Hanjabam Langlentombi received silver in the Nanquan competition; Y Bonish and Kongjengbam Luxmi won gold in same event.

The six more medals Manipur’s Wushu team earned in the Games demonstrated the athletes’ strength. Rajchandra Moirangthem, the Chef de Mission, commended them for their excellent efforts; he said they worked hard and stood tough in front of continuous problems throughout preparation.

39 Wushu athletes from Manipur—including 20 female athletes—are representing the state in this National Games edition, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened. Manipur has continued to be a major player in Wushu after its 2007 Guwahati debut.

At the 37th National Games in Goa (2023), Manipur’s Wushu athletes secured 9 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze medals; in the 36th edition in Gujarat, they secured 6 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze medals. Especially four Wushu athletes from the state have received the esteemed Arjuna Award.
