The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has given its approval for Prashant Kumar Singh to return to his home region in Manipur as the Chief Secretary of the state. Singh, an IAS officer from the 1993 batch, takes over for Vineet Joshi, who has been promoted to Higher Education Secretary at the Center.
Singh has had a long and successful career. Most recently, he was Secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and CEO of the Government e-Marketplace, a major project run by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. He knows a lot about government, energy, and technology because he has a degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi and a master’s degree in Public Policy and Sustainable Development from TERI University.
His hiring comes at a very important time for Manipur, which is dealing with problems between different ethnic groups.
